Configuration Frequently Asked Questions: |
| The Equine Artificial Vagina consists of the following components 1.Leather Cover/Carrying Case 2.16" Heavy Duty Gum Rubber Collection Boot/Liner The 16" heavy-duty gum rubber collection boot/liner is to be enclosed into the leather carrying case. The leather carrying case performs two functions: 1.It permits the vagina to be easily carried. 2.It gives the collection boot/liner the rigidity needed to properly collect semen from a stallion. Instructions for Set up, Use and Care of the 16" Equine Artificial Vagina Liner When preparing the Artificial Vagina (A.V.) place the liner valve side up in the bottom of the sink. There are two (2) ways to fill the Equine Artificial Vagina; the use of the A.V. Funnel Fill Kit will allow for a longer life to the liner. Where as the second will fill the liner much quicker, although, exposing the liner to dry rot due to the hyperextension of the gum rubber while filling. Both ways are very effective 1.The Next Generation A.V. Funnel Fill Kit 2.An air stem valve/hose attachment system linked to your sink faucet. With the A.V. Funnel Fill Kit, first you will unscrew the entire brass pin out of the air/valve assembly and then turn the brass fitting onto the external threads of the valve and turn the nut finger tight. You are now ready to fill the Artificial Vagina Liner with water to the temperature for which works best for your stallion. Each horse is different and will require some preparation before breeding season to find out which temperature works best for him. With the Air Stem Valve System you'll need to dedicate a water faucet exclusively for this filling device and/or install a quick release system on to the present spicket. Using this set up is much more costly, although, on a large farm with several stallions actually works the best. At this point you are now ready to fill the liner with water, (1) Bring the water to the specific temperature for your stallion. (2) Hold the funnel under the waterspout and begin filling the Artificial Vagina Liner. (3) Begin to pull up on the plastic tubing which will allow the air bubbles to be released. (4) As the filling continues the water will begin to back fill up the tubing, when this level reaches the black mark this will be your signal to stop and replace the air/valve plug. (5) Pull up on the tubing which should allow the water back into the liner, grasp the base of the air/water valve and turn off the A.V. Funnel Fill Kit, (6) Quickly replace with the air/water valve stem again, finger tight. Keep a close watch on the temperature, if the inside liner temperature is to be 41° to 45° C then you'll need to make sure that your water filling temperature is 45°C to 51°C (113°F to 124°F). Depending upon the outside temperature of the breeding shed and the length of time between the filling of the A.V. and the actual time of the collection. After the A.V. Liner is filled wipe off excess water and place the leather cover around the outside, make sure the buckles are tightly set to increase the rigid configuration of the entire Equine Artificial Vagina Liner. When the vagina is made ready for use, the liner's inner surface is covered with a water soluble, nonspermicidal lubricant such as the Next Generation® One Shot nonspermicidal lubricant. The pressure inside the vagina liner is established through the use of the two-way water valve until it is of sufficient size and pressure of the stallion being collected. The temperature of the interior of the vagina should be regulated between 41° to 45° C (105°F to 112°F) |
